Detailed 6-Day Uganda Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Pick Up from Kigali to Lake Bunyonyi & Afternoon Boat Trip
Your guide will meet you in Kigali, either at the airport or your hotel. From there, you will drive to Lake Bunyonyi in Uganda, about 108 kilometers away, taking 2 to 3 hours including a stop at the Katuna border for immigration. On arrival, check in at your lodge, refresh, and have lunch.
In the afternoon, enjoy a boat trip on Lake Bunyonyi, Uganda’s deepest lake. View the 29 islands scattered across the lake, watch birds, and learn about the lake’s history from your local guide. You may step onto one of the islands to meet local people before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Transfer to Bwindi & Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi
Wake up early for breakfast and transfer to the sector headquarters of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. After a briefing at the park offices, rangers will guide you into the forest to track a habituated gorilla family.
Once you find them, you will spend one hour watching them in their natural habitat and taking photos. After the trek, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
After breakfast, check out and drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, about 75 kilometers from Ruhija, taking 2 to 3 hours. Enter the park through the Ishasha sector, home to the famous tree-climbing lions. Along the way, you may also see elephants, leopards, baboons, antelopes, and buffaloes. Lunch will be en route.
On arrival at your lodge, check in and later take a drive to Lake Katwe to see the explosion craters. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Game Drive & Afternoon Boat Trip
After an early breakfast, go for a game drive on the Mweya–Kasenyi plains. Look out for lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, and warthogs. You will also see many bird species, such as the red-chested sunbird, pygmy kingfisher, and little bee-eater. Return to your lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, take a two-hour boat trip on the Kazinga Channel, which links Lake George and Lake Edward. The cruise gives you close views of hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and buffaloes, along with a variety of waterbirds such as the papyrus gonolek, saddle-billed stork, and African skimmer. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Transfer to Kibale National Park & Chimpanzee Trekking
After breakfast, check out and drive about 75 kilometers to Kibale National Park, a journey of around two hours. On arrival, check in at your lodge and have lunch.
In the afternoon, head to Kanyanchu Visitor Center for registration and a briefing before chimpanzee trekking. With the help of ranger guides, you will walk through the forest to locate a habituated chimpanzee community.
Once found, you will spend one hour observing them before returning to the visitor center for debriefing. The trek usually lasts 2 to 5 hours. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Return to Kigali
After breakfast, check out and begin the drive back to Kigali, a 6 to 7-hour journey of about 370 kilometers through Kabale and Mbarara. Lunch will be along the way.
On arrival in Kigali, you will be dropped at the airport for your flight, marking the end of your 6-day safari.
