Detailed 3-Day Uganda Gorillas & Golden Monkey Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

After breakfast at your hotel in Kigali or on arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will begin your transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Kisoro.

You may choose to take an optional city tour of Kigali before heading to Uganda, or drive straight to Kisoro after pickup. If you take the city tour, lunch will be in Kigali.

If you travel directly, you will have lunch at your lodge in Mgahinga. On arrival, you will check in to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga & Batwa Cultural Encounter

This is the highlight of your safari. After breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing before starting the gorilla trek. Trekking usually takes between 2 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas.

When you meet the gorillas, you will spend one hour with them, taking photos and watching their behavior. After the trek, you will return to the starting point, receive your trekking certificate, and go back to your lodge for lunch.

In the evening, you will take part in the Batwa Cultural Experience. This activity introduces you to the Batwa people, a community that once lived as hunters and gatherers in the forests.

You will learn about their traditions and way of life before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking & Return to Kigali

After breakfast, you will go for golden monkey trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. This activity is easier and shorter than gorilla trekking, but it is equally rewarding as you get to see these rare primates in their natural habitat.

After the trek, you will drive back to Kigali, where you will be dropped at your hotel or at the airport for your departure flight. This will mark the end of your 3-day Mgahinga gorilla safari from Kigali.
