Detailed 4-Day Uganda Gorillas & Chimpanzee Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to Bwindi from Kigali
On arrival in Kigali, you will meet your guide for a short briefing about the safari. Afterward, you will cross into Uganda through the Katuna border. Lunch will be along the way in Kabale town.
You will then continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, reaching in the evening. Check in to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking & Batwa Community Visit
After breakfast, you will go to the park headquarters for a briefing about gorilla trekking. Visitors are divided into groups of eight, and each group is guided to a gorilla family. Trekking through the thick forest can be challenging, but once you find the gorillas, you will spend one full hour with them, watching and taking photos.
In the afternoon, you will visit the Batwa community near Bwindi. The Batwa were once forest dwellers, and you will learn about their traditions, hunting and gathering skills, and enjoy their songs and dances. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Kalinzu Forest & Relax
After breakfast, you will check out and drive to Kalinzu Forest, a journey of about 4 to 5 hours. On arrival, check in to your lodge and have lunch. The afternoon will be free for relaxation as you enjoy the peaceful environment and bird sounds. Dinner and overnight will be at your lodge.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kalinzu & Return to Kigali
After breakfast, you will go to the park briefing center for instructions about chimpanzee trekking. Kalinzu Forest has over 300 chimpanzees, with about 50 habituated for visitors. The trek may take a few hours, and once you find them, you will spend one hour watching how they feed, play, and care for their young.
After the trek, you will return to the lodge for lunch and later check out. In the afternoon, you will drive back to Kigali, a journey of about 4 to 5 hours. You will be dropped at your hotel or the airport, marking the end of your 4-day Bwindi and Kalinzu chimpanzee tour from Kigali.
