The walk to the land of the gorillas in the Nkuringo sector of Bwindi is led by a well trained park ranger who is armed purposely to shoot in air incase of any threat but these are rare occurrences if at all you follow the rules and regulations given to you at the start but nevertheless the guide will provide you with all information about the gorillas while in the bush making your visit very memorable and educative.
The first thing that should be done before setting off by either road or air transport is purchasing a permit from the Uganda wildlife Authority and in the peak season make sure to reserve your permit months back or you can book with a tour company to avoid the hustles and stress . The fee is favourable for every visitor’s pocket , that is to say $800 is charged per person for foreign non-residents while USD700 is charged per person for foreign residents and Uganda shillings 300, 000 is charged for East African citizens per person and note that this fee excludes accommodation , meal and other things you may need on your journey .Nkuringo sector is also suited within the rolling hills of Bwindi hosting three gorilla families which includes Nkuringo , Bushaho and Christmas gorilla families all giving you a dream come true adventure only that the season of your visit will determine the length of your stay in the jungle .During dry season you will have to spend a lot of time in the bush searching for these species because they are ever on a move to search for what to eat with most times depending on leaves , insects , flowers and roots for survival but rain season displays the gorillas at trekkers’ comfort due to food abundance. Nkuringo sector is a complex trail compared to all the trails in Bwindi but with the help of an experienced you will spot what you came for , Bwindi can be accessed by both road and air transport with road transport highly preferred because it is cheap compared to air transport which is expensive though some tourists still choose it which lands them at the airstrip in Kisoro which is close to Bwindi and from there one resorts to road transport to reach the park. Within this sector if you still prefer a boat ride you can go for it making a stopover at lake Mutanda or lake Muhele in Kisoro which can be enjoyed before or after the gorilla trekking adventure .
