Gorilla trekking is an outdoor activity that allows tourists to hike through the tropical rainforests to spot mountain gorillas in their natural habitats .

Gorilla trekking in Rwanda occurs in Volcanoes National Park . The activity starts in  the morning at the park headquarters with a briefing by park rangers and then tourists are grouped in  groups of 8 people which are allowed to visit a particular gorilla family per day by Rwanda Development board

Gorilla trekking can take up to  2 to 6 hours as tourists search for gorillas but once a gorilla family is allocated tourists are allowed to spend with it only one hour .

About Volcanoes National park

Volcanoes national park is located in n north western Rwanda . The park covers an area of 160 sq km and is surrounded by 5 of the eight Virunga mountains which are mountain Karisimbi , Mountain Bisoke , Mountain Muhabura , mountain Gahinga and mountain Sabyinyo.

Volcanoes National Park is a home to the endangered mountain gorillas and it was gazetted in 1925
