This 4-day Akagera National Park safari includes game drives, a boat safari on Lake Ihema, and the option of a Rwanda balloon experience. You will enjoy wildlife viewing on land and water, with chances to see hippos, crocodiles, elephants, giraffes, lions, zebras, antelopes, and many bird species such as the African fish eagle, shoebill stork, and papyrus gonolek.

The tour also includes a Kigali city tour with visits to key cultural and historical sites.

Detailed 3-Day Akagera Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Pick Up from Kigali Airport & Transfer to Akagera National Park

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will meet your driver-guide who will transfer you to Akagera National Park. You are expected to arrive in the early afternoon. Later, you will set out for a sunset game drive across the plains of Akagera National Park before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Game Drive in Akagera & Boat Cruise on Lake Ihema

After an early breakfast, head out for a game drive to spot early risers and predators such as lions and hyenas. You may also see elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, elands, impalas, oribis, bushbucks, and other antelopes.

Return to the lodge for lunch and later enjoy a boat safari on Lake Ihema. This lake is home to hippos, crocodiles, and many water birds, including the shoebill stork, African fish eagle, and papyrus gonolek. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 3: Transfer to Kigali & City Tour (Optional Balloon Safari)

After breakfast, check out and begin the drive back to Kigali. Along the way, you may still spot wildlife such as elephants, buffaloes, and antelopes.

Once in Kigali, take a city tour that includes visits to the Genocide Memorial Center, the Presidential Palace Museum, local markets, and other landmarks. You may also visit the National Museum, one of the largest in East Africa, known for its rich collection of history and culture.

Lunch will be arranged at Kigali Serena Hotel or the historic Hotel des Mille Collines, famous for its role during the 1994 genocide. In the evening, return to your lodge in Kigali. An optional hot air balloon safari can be arranged on this day if booked in advance.

Day 4: Departure

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Kigali International Airport in time for your flight home or to continue with your next safari.
