Detailed 3-Day Mount Nyiragongo Climbing Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Goma in Congo
After an early breakfast at your hotel or on arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will meet your tour guide and start the drive to Gisenyi. From here, you will cross the Gisenyi-Goma border into Congo and proceed to your lodge for overnight.
Day 2: Ascend Nyiragongo Mountain
In the morning, gather at the starting point for the trek and begin your hike up Mount Nyiragongo. The hike takes about 6 hours with short breaks along the way.
The group always moves at the pace of the slowest person, so everyone is able to reach the summit. A picnic lunch will be provided during the hike.
At the summit, you will check in to your cabin at the Nyiragongo Summit Shelters and rest. From here you can enjoy clear views of the Virunga Mountains.
At night, you will walk closer to the lava lake and watch its glowing activity. Overnight will be at the summit shelters.
Day 3: Descend Nyiragongo, Transfer to Gisenyi & Kigali
After breakfast, you will descend the volcano, reaching the starting point around midday where you will meet your guide. Cross back into Rwanda and head to Gisenyi for lunch at the beach and some time to relax.
In the evening, you will transfer to Kigali where you will be dropped at your hotel or the airport for your departure.
