Detailed 7-Day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking & Serengeti Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Arrive at Kigali International Airport where your safari guide will meet and brief you about the trip. Transfer to your hotel in Kigali for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Kigali City Tour & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, take a short Kigali city tour. Visit genocide memorial sites, museums, and markets. Later, drive to Volcanoes National Park in northern Rwanda. The park is home to mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. Arrive in Kinigi or nearby for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking & Cultural Visit
After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing before trekking gorillas. Groups of eight trekkers are allocated one gorilla family. The trek may take 2–8 hours depending on gorilla movements.
Once found, spend one hour observing them as they feed and interact. Return to the lodge for lunch and rest. In the evening, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to enjoy traditional music and dance. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 4: Return to Kigali to Fly to Tanzania (Arusha)
After breakfast, drive back to Kigali for your flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport. On arrival, meet your Tanzania safari guide and transfer to Arusha for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Arusha to Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, depart for Serengeti National Park. The drive is long but rewarding, with open savannah views along the way. Arrive in the afternoon and enjoy your first game drive before checking into your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight. Serengeti is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the Great Migration.
Day 6: Full Day Game Drive in Serengeti
Spend the day exploring Serengeti. Morning and afternoon game drives offer chances to see elephants, buffaloes, zebras, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, antelopes, and hippos.
Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park before continuing your safari. Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and rest.
Day 7: Serengeti to Arusha & Departure
After breakfast, depart Serengeti and drive back to Arusha. Depending on your route, you may see wildlife along the way, including elephants, baboons, jackals, and antelopes.
Continue to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home or onward travel.
