Detailed 5-Day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking & Masai Mara Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Arrive at Kigali International Airport, where our representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. If time allows, visit some of Kigali’s highlights such as the Genocide Memorial, Caplaki Craft Market, the Presidential Palace Museum, and local shopping centers. Dinner and overnight in Kigali.
Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park & Visit Musanze Caves
After breakfast, drive from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze. On the way, stop to explore the Musanze Caves, which are home to thousands of bats and have an interesting geological history. Continue to your lodge near the park for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking & Cultural Visit
Have breakfast early and head to the park headquarters for a briefing. You will be placed in a group of eight trekkers and assigned a gorilla family. The trek may take 2–8 hours depending on the gorillas’ movements.
Once you find them, spend one hour observing their behavior. After lunch at the lodge, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to experience traditional music, dance, and storytelling. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Return to Kigali & Fly to Nairobi
After breakfast, drive back to Kigali, stopping for lunch on the way. Depending on your flight time, transfer to the airport for your flight to Nairobi. On arrival, meet your Kenyan guide and transfer to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Nairobi to Masai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast, drive to Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya’s most famous park. The reserve is home to the Big Five, many other animals, and hundreds of bird species. Arrive in the afternoon, check into your lodge, and enjoy dinner and overnight with views of the plains.
Day 6: Full-Day Game Drive in Masai Mara
Spend the day exploring Masai Mara on game drives. Depending on the season, you may see the wildebeest migration between July and September. Expect to see lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, rhinos, and many other species. In the afternoon, visit a Maasai village to learn about their culture and traditions. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 7: Masai Mara to Nairobi & Departure
After breakfast, drive back to Nairobi. Stop for lunch or snacks at a shopping mall, and if time allows, visit the Giraffe Center. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant before being transferred to the airport for your flight home.
