Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to Akagera National Park
On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will meet your safari guide who will brief you about the trip. You will then transfer east to Akagera National Park, a drive of about 3–4 hours. Enjoy lunch along the way and take in the scenery.
In the afternoon, go for a boat ride on Lake Ihema. This gives you a chance to see hippos, crocodiles, and many water birds such as the African fish eagle, papyrus gonolek, and shoebill stork. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 2: Game Drive & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After an early breakfast, set out for a game drive in Akagera. Look out for predators like lions and hyenas, as well as elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, elands, impalas, oribis, bushbucks, and other antelopes.
Return to the lodge for lunch or a late breakfast. In the afternoon, transfer northwards to Volcanoes National Park. Arrive in the evening for dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking & Visit to Twin Lakes Burera & Ruhondo
After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing about gorilla trekking. You will then be assigned a gorilla family and guided into the forest by rangers. Trekking may take several hours, but once you find the gorillas, you will spend one full hour with them.
After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and rest. In the evening, visit the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo at the base of Mount Muhabura and Mount Gahinga. Here you will enjoy cultural encounters and scenic views before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Return to Kigali & Departure
