This 4-day safari takes you to Nyungwe National Park, one of Rwanda’s most exciting destinations. Activities include chimpanzee trekking, a canopy walk, birding, and guided nature walks.

The trip also includes a Kigali city excursion where you will experience Rwandan culture and lifestyle.

Nyungwe is home to over 13 species of primates, including chimpanzees, vervet monkeys, and colobus monkeys, as well as many bird species.

Detailed 4-Day Nyungwe Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Pick Up from Kigali & Transfer to Nyungwe National Park

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by our representative who will brief you about the safari.

Along the way to Nyungwe, you will pass through green tea plantations, Butare town, and the King’s Palace Museum in Nyanza. On arrival at Nyungwe, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Afternoon Canopy Walk

After an early breakfast, drive to the starting point for chimpanzee trekking. You will first attend a short briefing by the park ranger who will explain the rules to follow during the trek.

While searching for chimpanzees, you may also see other primates such as red-tailed monkeys and vervet monkeys, as well as several bird species.

In the afternoon, take part in the canopy walk, a suspended walkway about 50 meters above the ground and 200 meters long. From here you can view primates in the trees and a variety of forest birds. Afterward, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Nature Walks & Birding in Nyungwe Forest

After breakfast, set out for birding in Nyungwe, which is Rwanda’s best birding site. Look out for species such as the Rwenzori turaco, along with other primates like mangabeys and L’Hoest’s monkeys.

In the afternoon, enjoy a guided nature walk through the forest before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Kigali & City Tour

After breakfast, begin your drive back to Kigali. Depending on your flight schedule, you may take a short city tour to visit local markets, craft shops, or shopping centers. Along the way, you can also stop at cultural sites such as the museum in Butare and the King’s Palace.

Later, you will be dropped off at Kigali International Airport for your departure flight, marking the end of your 4-day safari.
