Cyanika border is located in Southwestern Uganda and it links Uganda and Rwanda . Cyanika border is in kisoro district meaning tourists can easily access Bwindi impenetrable National park and Mgahinga national park the homes of mountain gorillas for gorilla trekking in Uganda and as well as Volcanoes National park in Rwanda.

Cyanika border is the most important gate way for tourists in Uganda and Rwanda compared to katuna border .

Crossing the cyanika border from both Countries is very easy if one has the required documents ie

  1. Valid passport

International travellers using cyanika border will have to present their passports whereas East Africans a valid National Id.

  1. Valid visa

International tourists crossing to either of the countries are required to have a valid East African visa which is an authorization to visit any of the East African countries.

 

Cyanika border does operate 24 hours just like katuna border . Some of the residents at cyanika border are Ugandans , Banyarwanda , congolese and Burundians  with the highest number of people being Bafumbira and Bakiga from Uganda.

Mountain gorillas

Mountain gorillas van be visited in Bwindi impenetrable national park and Mgahinga gorilla national park . Both these national parks are located in south western Uganda and tourists will need to secure gorilla permits to visit the mountain gorillas.

Bwindi has over 20 gorilla families open for trekking in the sectors of Rushaga , Buhoma , Ruhija and Nkuringo .

Mgahinga has 1 gorilla family available for trekking . A gorilla permit cost USD 800 per person.

 

Lake Mutanda

Lake  mutanda is one and half hours drive from cyanika border. Tourists will engage in activities like canoe ride and bird watching thus offering wonderful experiences.

 

Golden monkeys

These are located in Mgahinga national park and this activity takes about 2 to 5 hours . Tourists will spot the golden monkeys in their natural habitat thus fascinating experiences
