4-Day Bwindi & Mgahinga Primate Tour from Kigali – Gorillas & Golden Monkeys

This 4-day primate safari takes you to two of Uganda’s top destinations for primate encounters. You will trek the endangered mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and track the rare golden monkeys in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. The tour begins and ends in Kigali, Rwanda.

Detailed 4-Day Uganda Gorillas & Golden Monkey Tour

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali & Drive to Bwindi National Park

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will meet your driver-guide. Depending on your arrival time, you may take an optional city tour of Kigali, with lunch included, before continuing to Uganda.

Later, you will drive across the border to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, arriving in the evening. Check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

After an early breakfast, you will head to the park offices for a short briefing on gorilla trekking rules and guidelines. Visitors are grouped into teams of eight, and each group is assigned a gorilla family. Guided by rangers, you will trek through the forest until you find the gorillas.

Once you locate them, you will spend one full hour in their presence, watching them as they feed, play, and rest. Afterward, you will return to the park offices and then head to your lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, you can engage in some optional activities. After the cultural experience, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Mgahinga National Park & Relax

After breakfast, you will leave Bwindi and drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, a journey of about two hours. On arrival, check in at your lodge and relax for the rest of the day.

You may also choose to take part in optional activities if you wish. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking & Return to Kigali

After breakfast, you will go to the park offices for a briefing before starting your golden monkey trek. Accompanied by rangers, you will walk through the bamboo forest in search of the golden monkeys.

Once found, you will spend one hour observing them as they feed and move through the trees.

After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you will drive back to Kigali through the Cyanika border, a journey of about four hours.

This will mark the end of your 4-day Bwindi and Mgahinga primate tour.
