Detailed 3-Day Uganda Gorillas & Boat Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali & Transfer to Bwindi National Park

Your journey begins with a pick up from your hotel or from Kigali International Airport. From here, you will enjoy a scenic drive through Rwanda’s hills before crossing into Uganda at the Cyanika border.

In Uganda, the drive continues through terraced farmlands and small villages before reaching Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This park is home to nearly half of the world’s mountain gorillas and has four main sectors: Nkuringo, Ruhija, Buhoma, and Rushaga. On arrival, you will check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking & Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

After an early breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing. You will then set off for gorilla trekking with the help of rangers, porters, and escorts. The trek usually takes between 3 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas.

Once you find your assigned gorilla family, you will spend one full hour watching them feed, play, and interact. Along the trail, you may also see birds, butterflies, and unique plants. After the trek, you will drive to Lake Bunyonyi, which is surrounded by hills and has 29 small islands. The lake is also the second deepest in Africa. In the evening, you may choose to take a canoe ride or a cultural tour. Dinner and overnight will be at a lodge near the lake.

Day 3: Optional Activities & Return to Kigali

Wake up to the peaceful views of Lake Bunyonyi and enjoy breakfast. If time allows, you can take part in an optional activity such as a boat cruise to explore the islands, bird watching, or a short hike. Later, you will begin the drive back to Kigali, where you will be dropped at your hotel or the airport for your departure flight. This will mark the end of your 3-day safari.
