Detailed 2-Day Mgahinga Gorilla Trekking Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Your safari begins with a pickup from your hotel in Kigali or from Kigali International Airport. After meeting your guide, you may choose to take a short city tour of Kigali to visit key attractions, or drive directly to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda.
The drive to Mgahinga takes around 3 hours, including the time spent at the border crossing. On arrival in Kisoro, you will check in at your lodge, have dinner, and rest. This evening gives you the chance to prepare for your gorilla trekking adventure the next day.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga & Return to Kigali
After an early breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for your trek. A good breakfast is advised because trekking can be demanding. Mgahinga has one habituated gorilla family, though sometimes gorillas cross from Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda.
The trek can last up to 8 hours, depending on where the gorillas are found, including the one hour you spend with them. After your time with the gorillas, you will return to the starting point, receive your trekking certificate, and drive back to Kigali.
The drive back takes about 3 hours. Once in Kigali, you will be dropped off at your hotel or transferred directly to the airport for your departure flight. This marks the end of your 2-day Mgahinga gorilla safari from Kigali.
