Start with a Kigali city tour to visit historical sites such as the Gisozi Genocide Memorial, the craft markets, the presidential museum, and shopping centers. Later, drive north to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze Province. Arrive in the evening and check in to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking & Visit to Gorilla Guardians Village

After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters in Kinigi with your trekking gear and packed lunch. Attend a briefing before setting off with a ranger guide for the gorilla trekking adventure.

The trek may take between 2 and 8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. Once you find them, you will spend one hour with the gorilla family, observing and taking photos.

Return to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, visit Gorilla Guardians Village for a cultural experience with traditional music, dance, food, and stories of the Banyarwanda people. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking & Visit to Twin Lakes

After breakfast, go for golden monkey trekking. Along the way, you may also encounter baboons and other wildlife.

Return for lunch and spend the afternoon visiting the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera. You can take a canoe ride while enjoying views of the Virunga Mountains. Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park & Canopy Walk

After breakfast, drive to Nyungwe National Park, the only place in East Africa where you can enjoy a canopy walk.

On arrival, go straight for the canopy walk, which is 50 meters above the ground. From here, you will see colobus monkeys, olive baboons, blue monkeys, birds, butterflies, and the forest from above. Dinner and overnight at your lodge near Nyungwe.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe

After an early breakfast, transfer to the chimpanzee trekking starting point for a briefing by the park ranger. Learn the rules before heading into the forest to track chimpanzees.

During the trek, you may also see red-tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, birds, butterflies, and other forest wildlife. The trek can take between 1 and 6 hours depending on where the chimps are located.

Return to your lodge for an early lunch. In the afternoon, relax or take a short visit to the Gisakura Tea Plantation. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
