Detailed 4-Day Rwanda Gorillas & Golden Monkeys Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Our driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel or from Kigali International Airport and begin the journey to Musanze, Rwanda’s third-largest city.
Set against the backdrop of the five Virunga volcanoes, Musanze will be your base for exploring Volcanoes National Park. On arrival, check in at your lodge and spend the evening enjoying the surroundings.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking & Evening Cultural Visit
After an early breakfast, you will go to the park headquarters in Kinigi for a briefing before starting gorilla trekking.
The trek can take between 2 and 8 hours depending on the location of the gorilla family and weather conditions. Once you find the gorillas, you will spend one hour with them, observing their behavior and taking photos. This is a special experience where you will watch the gorillas up close in their natural home.
After trekking, return to the starting point, have your packed lunch, and go back to the lodge to rest.
In the evening, you will visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village where locals share songs, dances, stories, food, and traditions.
Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking
After breakfast, set out for golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes National Park. These rare monkeys live in the bamboo forests, and the trek usually lasts 2 to 4 hours. You will spend one hour watching them feed, jump, and play.
After the trek, return to your lodge to relax and prepare for departure the next day.
Alternatively, you may visit the Twin Lakes of Ruhondo and Burera for a canoe ride and views of the nearby mountains and villages.
Day 4: Kigali City Tour & Departure
After breakfast, drive back to Kigali for a short city tour. You will visit local craft markets, the Presidential Palace Museum, and the Genocide Memorial, among other cultural and historical sites.
Later, your driver-guide will drop you at the airport depending on your flight schedule. This marks the end of your 4-day Rwanda Gorillas & Golden Monkeys Tour.
