Detailed 3-Day Rwanda Chimpanzee Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Pick Up & Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
On arrival at Kigali International Airport or after breakfast at your hotel, you will be met by our representative. He will brief you about the safari before transferring you to Nyungwe National Park through Butare in the Southern Province.
Along the way, you will stop at important historical sites such as the King’s Palace Museum, Kamegeri’s Rock, and the National Ethnographic Museum of Rwanda in Nyanza. Continue the journey to Nyungwe, check in at your lodge, have dinner, and stay overnight.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Canopy Walk
After an early breakfast, drive to the Uwinka Visitor Center for a briefing before chimpanzee trekking. A park ranger will explain the rules and guidelines to follow during the trek.
As you move through the forest, you may also see other primates such as red-tailed monkeys and vervet monkeys, as well as different bird species.
In the afternoon, experience the Nyungwe canopy walk. The suspended bridge is 50 meters above the ground and 200 meters long, offering wide views of the forest. From here, you can spot primates swinging in the trees and many forest birds. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Visit Lake Kivu & Transfer to Kigali
After breakfast, drive to Kibuye in Western Province to visit Lake Kivu. Before reaching the lake, you will stop at Gisakura Tea Factory to learn about tea production, from the nursery stage to the final product. This tour takes about two hours.
Continue to Kibuye for a visit to Napoleon Island, a canoeing experience on Lake Kivu, and a tour of the Environmental Museum. Afterward, transfer back to Kigali in time for your flight or onward journey.
