Detailed 5-Day Uganda Rwanda Gorilla Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

On arrival in Kigali, or after an overnight stay there, your guide will meet you and transfer you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. If you wish, you can take a short Kigali city tour before leaving. On arrival in Bwindi, check into your lodge, have dinner, and stay overnight.

Day 2: Bwindi Gorilla Trekking

After breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing and gorilla family allocation. Then enter the forest to begin trekking. The trek may take several hours depending on the gorilla movements, but once you find them, you will spend one hour with the gorillas. After the trek, return to the starting point to receive your trekking certificate, then drive back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park & Visit Twin Lakes

After breakfast, drive to Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. This is the only park in Rwanda where you can trek gorillas, but the experience is different from Uganda. Here you trek on the slopes of the Virunga mountains. After checking in at your lodge, relax and later in the evening visit the Twin Lakes in Musanze.

Day 4: Rwanda Gorilla Trekking & Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village

After breakfast, head to the park headquarters in Kinigi for briefing before starting your gorilla trek. Trekking in Rwanda is often shorter and easier compared to Uganda. The scenery around the Virunga mountains makes the experience special.

After your one hour with the gorillas, return to the park headquarters to receive your certificate, then head back to your lodge. In the evening, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to learn about Rwandan culture and traditions.

Day 5: Departure

Spend the morning relaxing at your lodge. After lunch, drive back to Kigali for your flight or be dropped at a preferred location.

End of 5 Days Uganda Rwanda Gorilla Trek.
