Have you ever thought of combining East Africa’s best wildlife experiences in one safari? This 15-day African Family Safari begins in Nairobi, Kenya, with game viewing in Maasai Mara and Serengeti National Park to witness the Great Migration.

The journey continues to Ngorongoro Crater, home to Africa’s Big Five; lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, and buffalo, plus many other animals. From here, you fly to Uganda, the Pearl of Africa, for gorilla trekking in Bwindi Forest and chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest.

Detailed 15-Day East African Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi

Meet your safari guide at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. You will be briefed about the safari, activities, and accommodation. Then transfer to your hotel in Nairobi for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Nairobi to Maasai Mara National Reserve

After breakfast, drive for six hours to Maasai Mara. Stop at the Rift Valley escarpment to enjoy views and photos before continuing to the reserve. Arrive for lunch, then go for an afternoon game drive before dinner and overnight at your lodge or camp.

Day 3: Full-Day Game Drive in Masai Mara

Spend the day exploring Masai Mara, Kenya’s most famous park. The grasslands are full of wildlife including elephants, gazelles, antelopes, lions, cheetahs, and leopards. Birdlife is also rich, with many resident and migrant species. Evening return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 4: Masai Mara to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, drive from Masai Mara to Serengeti National Park through the Lake Victoria basin. Arrive in the Seronera area, the park’s best wildlife hub, for lunch. Later, enjoy an afternoon game drive before returning to camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 5 & 6: Game Drives in Serengeti

Start with an early morning game drive to look for predators and other wildlife. Spend the rest of the days exploring Serengeti with picnic lunches. If traveling between July and October, you may witness the Great Migration as wildebeest and gazelles cross the Mara River. The Serengeti is also home to elephants, giraffes, rhinos, lions, and many more animals.

Day 7: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast, enjoy a game drive while leaving Serengeti. Stop at the Ngorongoro viewpoint for photos, then descend into the crater for a full day of game viewing. Have lunch by the hippo pool, then later drive to Karatu for dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Full Day in Ngorongoro Crater

Spend the day inside Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest unbroken caldera. It has high numbers of animals, including the Big Five. Have a picnic lunch and continue game drives until evening. Return to Karatu for overnight.

Day 9: Ngorongoro to Arusha, Fly to Kampala

After breakfast, drive to Arusha. Visit a Maasai village and, if time allows, stop at the Maasai market. Later transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport for your flight to Entebbe, Uganda.

Day 10: Kampala to Kibale Forest National Park

Your guide will pick you from your Kampala hotel and drive to Kibale Forest. The park is known for chimpanzees and 13 species of primates. Arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge, and have dinner.

Day 11: Chimpanzee Trekking & Bigodi Wetlands Visit

After breakfast, go to the ranger station for briefing before trekking chimpanzees in Kibale Forest. Spend one hour with the chimps once found. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, visit Bigodi Wetlands to see birds and interact with the local community.

Day 12: Transfer to Bwindi National Park

After breakfast, transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Drive through the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, known for tree-climbing lions. Continue to Bwindi and check into your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 13: Gorilla Trekking & Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Start the day with briefing at the park headquarters before gorilla trekking. The trek may take several hours depending on where the gorillas were last seen. Spend one hour with the gorillas, then return to the lodge for lunch. Later, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for dinner and overnight.

Day 14: Full Day at Lake Bunyonyi

Spend the day exploring Lake Bunyonyi, Africa’s second deepest lake with 29 islands. Take a canoe ride or boat cruise to visit islands with rich history and meet local communities and fishermen. Dinner and overnight at the lake.

Day 15: Lake Bunyonyi to Kampala & Departure

After breakfast, drive to Kampala. Stop in Mbarara for lunch, then at the Equator for photos. Continue to Kampala and transfer to your hotel or Entebbe Airport for departure.
