10 Days Gorilla Trekking, Big Cats & Wildebeest Migration Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive at Entebbe airport
Meet and greet services at the airport upon arrival on Day one of your 10 Days Bwindi Gorillas, Masai Mara & Serengeti Wildlife Safari. Our company representative will be ready to go over all details of the trip, providing a schedule, documentation/receipts/permits, and if possible pick-up times for all included activities and experiences. The representative can also answer any queries regarding the safari and the general area.
Day 2: To Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Early morning, have breakfast and drive southwards to Bwindi impenetrable forest national park. This is a 9-hour journey with several stopovers. The first one is at the Uganda equator in Kayabwe- 72km from Kampala. You do the water experiment that shows how water swirls in different directions in opposite hemispheres of the world – northern and southern poles. Take as many pictures as you wish and continue to Mbarara town for lunch. Thereafter, drive straight to Bwindi forest, arriving in the evening for dinner and night stay.
Day 3: Gorilla trekking & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Head into Bwindi Impenetrable forest to meet the park ranger/guide for orientation. Embark on the trek, which can vary in length and difficulty, depending on the location of allocated gorilla family and speed of trekkers. Get prepared before embarking on a gorilla expedition: bring plenty of drinking water, snacks and waterproof clothing (it can rain any time in the jungles), and be sure to bring some protective bags for cameras and film. Dress in shirts with long sleeves and long pants to protect against stinging insects that are common in tropical forests. The trek is usually chilly, at first, until you start real trekking on steep slopes.
Spend a maximum of 1 hour observing these beautiful and endangered creatures, a truly privileged experience. Trek back and return to the starting point, join your safari guide and have a picnic lunch and immediately begin the journey to Volcanoes National park in Northern Rwanda where you’ll spend one night. Enjoy free time in the evening glaring at the stunning Virunga ranges.
Day 4: Golden monkeys, depart to Kigali & fly to Arusha
Gather at the ranger station for short briefing before your golden monkey adventure begins. Get into this thick bamboo forest to search for these rather shy apes; golden monkeys are rare apes and quite elusive that one has to walk slowly within the bamboo forests to be able to spot them.
In the afternoon, return to Kigali with some successful sightseeing moments en route. At leisure, drive through the romantic hills of Northern Rwanda and arrive in Kigali on time for lunch and shopping souvenirs. Take a delicious lunch buffet in the heart of Kigali, and depending on your flight time, be transferred directly to Kanombe and catch a connecting flight to Arusha in Tanzania.
Land either at Arusha airport or JKIA and immediately be driven back by our Tanzania driver guide to your pre-booked hotel for overnight and dinner.
Day 5: To Serengeti & en-route game safari in Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Short transfer to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area from Arusha. Ngorongoro is a collapsed volcano – and incredible natural Amphitheatre, teeming with all kinds of African big game. Upon arrival, take a descent into the crater for spectacular scenery and amazing game viewing. Ngorongoro is as well a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This night you will stay at the crater rim, which is quite a common spot for viewing zebras, buffaloes and even elephants as they graze right near the lodge.
Ngorongoro Crater is simply a game viewing gone crazy and it is not surprising that it is one of Tanzania’s major tourist draw cards and the world’s natural wonder. The rare Black rhinos are also protected within its rim, giant tusked elephants wander the Ngorongoro forests, black-maned lions stalk the grasslands, and flamingos crowd the soda lake located in the interior.
A game drive in Ngorongoro area can never be a bore! After all this experience, continue to Serengeti, arriving to check in at the lodge for night stay and dinner.
Day 6-7: Full day game safaris in Serengeti
Depart after breakfast to the endless plains of the Serengeti. Upon entering the Serengeti’s plains, be ready to enjoy further exploration of the endless African savannah and its inhabitants. The habitats are all natural and one can undertake a game drive with picnic lunch to explore further afield. In these two days, abundant big cats and herds of herbivores are available for you to observe.
Tanzania’s Serengeti national park together with Kenya’s Maasai Mara Game reserve form Africa’s most famous wilderness. The annual wildebeest migration through Serengeti is the largest mass movement of land mammals on the planet – with more than 1,500,000 animals following the rains. But that is not where the game viewing ends in Serengeti; large prides of lions, herds of elephants and giraffes roam the grasslands, gazelles and elands, and so much more.
Day 8: Transfer to Maasai Mara from Serengeti
After breakfast at the lodge, start the drive to pass via Isebania border post between Kenya and Tanzania. Travel to the border where you’ll clear immigration and proceed to Maasai Mara game reserve in Kenya. Time permitting, you can take a short drive to Rekero where the guide will give an overview of this special area near the confluence of two rivers.
These rivers are the lifeline of Maasai Mara national Reserve, where animals quench their thirst and often gather for safety against predators. From this short tour, freshen up and it’s time for dinner beside the river on the green grass of Rekero and admire the African skies filled with stars.
Day 9: Full day game safari
A full day is spent at Kenya’s famous Maasai Mara game reserve. Dedicate the day driving across the sweeping plains searching for the big cats – Cheetahs, black manned lions and leopards with picnic lunch served on the banks of Mara River. Vast herds of wildebeest and zebra wander across the Mara grasslands in huge numbers during months of June through to October.
During this time, millions of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles traverse the Mara Savannah landscape to feed on the rich new grass from the Serengeti national park. You also have a chance to see other plain game like the hartebeests, the Maasai giraffes, Elands, Topis, buffaloes, elephants, etc. Dinner and night stay at the Lodge/camp.
Day 10: To Nairobi
After an early morning breakfast, have your last game drive en-route to Nairobi. Have stop-overs with in the bustling towns to give you opportunities to purchase souvenirs and other items. Arrive late in the afternoon, for lunch and afterwards you can be dropped off at the Airport or to your preferred hotel for night stay. End of 10 days Bwindi, Volcanoes, Serengeti and Maasai Mara Safari.
