This 6 Days Budget Rwanda Safari & Primates Trekking Adventure takes you to explore the best of Rwanda, including gorilla trekking, Gorilla Guardians Village cultural tour, chimpanzee tracking, canopy walk, golden monkey tracking and Kigali city tour.
This safari will cover only 2 great national parks in Rwanda; Volcanoes National Park and Nyungwe National Park, all beginning and ending from Kigali.
Detailed Budget Rwanda Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park Rwanda
You will be Picked from either your hotel in Kigali or from the airport by our company representative who will be with you for next 6 days exploring the magical Rwanda.
Begin with a tour around Kigali city to visit the historical sites, such as Gisozi genocide museum in the heart of Kigali, the craft markets, presidential museum, shopping malls and later head for road trip to the north-wards to Volcanoes national park in Musanze province.
Arrive late and check in to your lodge for dinner and overnight at any of your preferred place of accommodation.
Day 2: Gorilla Tracking and visit Gorilla Guardians Village
Wake up early for breakfast at your hotel/lodge, set off with the necessary tracking gear and packed lunch, you will move to the park headquarters in Kinigi for briefing, before continuing with the professional ranger guide for the memorable adventure.
The time taken trekking gorillas in Rwanda highly depends on the movement of the gorillas since they are quite volatile and roam around the forest; but averagely the trek takes between 2 and 8 hours.
A maximum of one hour is allowed for you to be in the midst of a particular gorilla family as you take as many photographs and videos as you can.
After the great experience, head to your lodge/hotel for lunch. The afternoon / evening will be occupied with a magical cultural experience at famous Gorilla Guardians Village to learn about the Banyarwanda culture through music, dance and drama, traditional meals and more. Dinner and overnight at your preferred Lodge.
Day 3: Golden Monkey Tracking and Visit twin lakes – Ruhondo & Burera
In the morning, you will need to go and track these primates i.e. the golden monkeys after your breakfast; also encounter other animals such as the baboons, and many others.
Return after the experience, have lunch and dedicate your evening to a tour around the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Bulera, undertake a local canoe trip as you admire great views of the Virunga mountains.
Return to the lodge as the dark sets in for a marvelous night stay.
Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe national park and afternoon canopy walk
Transfer to Nyungwe national park after your breakfast; this is the only destination where you can participate in a canopy walk in east Africa.
Upon arrival, straight away head for this great activity and you will be able to spot a number of animals such as colobus monkeys, olive baboons, blue monkeys, among others.
This canopy walk is a historic venture passing above the forest, almost 50 meters over the ground; so it offers epic views and 360” degrees sightings of all forest dwellers including primates, birds, butterflies and abundant lush vegetation that cannot be viewed on a normal forest walk.
Day 5: Chimpanzee Tracking
After breakfast, you will drive to the chimpanzee trekking starting point after an early morning breakfast. This will commence with a short briefing with a park ranger giving out the dos and don’ts to follow while trekking chimpanzees.
While trekking, you will encounter other animals such as red-tailed monkeys, Velvet monkeys, and different bird species, vast flora, butterflies, and so much more.
The experience may last for about 1 to 6 hours depending on the ease of finding these elusive creatures. Return to your place of accommodation for an early lunch, and spend the entire afternoon relaxing at the lodge or take a short tour within Gisakura Tea plantations.
Day 6: Transfer to Kigali for city Tour
On this day you will have breakfast, check out of the lodge and head to Kigali city via Butare. This is another big city after Kigali, and a great stop point for cultural immersion and a learning center for Rwanda’s history. Continue to Kigali for another short city excursion, or go shopping before you proceed to the airport.
