Detailed Rwanda Gorillas & Golden Monkeys Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes National Park Rwanda
Our driver guide will pick you from your accommodation/Kigali International airport and begin the journey to Musanze, Rwanda’s third largest city.
Set against the backdrop of the five Virunga volcanoes, Musanze will be your base from which to explore Volcanoes National Park.
Arrive at the lodge for check in and spend the rest of the evening admiring the beautiful scenery that surround this place.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and a cultural encounter in the evening
After an early breakfast at your accommodation facility on this second day of your 4 Days Rwanda Gorillas & Golden Monkeys Safari, you’ll head directly to the Volcanoes National Park’s headquarters in Kinigi to meet your Rwanda gorilla guides.
After completing the briefing, embark on a once in a lifetime experience of tracking the enigmatic mountain gorillas.
There is no guarantee how long it will take or level of difficulty your gorilla tracking experience will take as it all depends on the location of an allocated family of gorillas as well as the weather conditions. It can take anywhere from 2-8 hours of gorilla trekking through rugged montane jungles at relatively high altitudes.
One of the most memorable experiences you’re likely to ever have, you’ll be given 1 hour of close contact with the gorillas once you’ve found them.
You’ll be allowed to come within mere meters of a family of these rare and beautiful animals, observing their family dynamics and getting to learn more about each gorilla’s distinct personality in serene silence.
Return to the starting point, have your box lunch and proceed to the lodge for relaxation.
In the evening, move to the nearby Ibyiwachu cultural center where locals showcase their vibrant performances coupled with nice songs, pleasant dances, storytelling, unique cuisine and an insight into their day to day lifestyle.
Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking
Spend this day tracking another of the Volcanoes National Park’s primate inhabitants after your breakfast, the beautiful golden monkeys which can only be found in the Volcanoes Conservation Area- particularly the Mgahinga gorilla park in Uganda and Volcanoes national park in Rwanda.
You’ll trek through sun-dappled glades and dense stands of bamboo in search of these frisky monkeys which are familiar to visitors. This means you’ll be able to view the golden monkey playing, feeding, and jumping from one tree to another.
While your time with the monkeys is limited to an hour. After, head back to the lodge to prepare for the next day of departure.
Alternatively, you can take a leisurely tour to the twin lakes – Ruhondo and Bulera which are set in the back drop of Muhabura and Gahinga mountains. Enjoy an evening canoe trip to explore hidden treasures of each lake as well as the resident communities.
Day 4: Kigali city tour and transfer to the airport
After a relaxed breakfast as you view the beauty of volcanoes and the forest, you will head back to Kigali for a city tour. Here you will visit the local craft markets to purchase for yourself a souvenir, presidential palace museum, the genocide center, among other sites of historical and cultural importance.
Later the driver guide will drop you at the airport depending on your flight time. This will mark the end of a 4 days Safari in Rwanda.
