4 Days Rwanda Double Gorilla Trekking Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up from the airport, City tour and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Depending on your arrival time at Kigali international airport, meet our driver guide who will brief you on what this double gorilla safari covers.

You may start with Kigali city tours which includes Kigali genocide memorial center, presidential palace museum and craft markets.

You will have some road trip northwestwards to Volcanoes National Park, a prominent home to a section of remaining endangered mountain gorillas.

Day 2: First round of mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Begin your day with delicious breakfast at your preferred safari lodge and after, gather at Kinigi park headquarters for a short briefing by park ranger guide about the set Rwanda gorilla trekking rules and regulations.

During this moment, try to ask any question concerning an encounter with mountain gorillas. The briefing takes about 30 minutes and after join a park ranger who will take you through this epic adventure.

You will be allocated to a group of 8 people to trek only one habituated gorilla family.

Usually trekking begins at 8:00am and it will last you up to 6 hours depending on your hiking speed, gorilla habitat nature and where these creatures are found in the course of the day.

Once you have found a group, you will be allowed only one hour to you to strike your imaginations, explore in depth their behaviors, body gestures and take their photos.

Later, get back to your respective safari lodge to have some rest and in the evening, you may head for a nature walk to explore the twin lakes; Bulera and Ruhondo or even remain at the lodge to have enough rest for the following day’s adventure.

Day 3: 2nd round of mountain gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park

Enjoy breakfast at the lodge and after, return to Kinigi park headquarters where briefing is done to know what rules and regulations to observe while on this second gorilla trek.

This day, you will be allocated to another gorilla family to trek different from the one you trekked the previous day. In a group of 8, join an armed park ranger who will guide you through.

On finding a group of mountain gorillas, take as many photos as possible, explore about their behaviors, their communication prowess, mothers caring for the young ones, etc.

Enjoy an hour of magical encounter and thereafter, get back to your lodge for relaxation. Evening time, take a tour to visit the mesmerizing Iby’Iwachu Cultural Village to get immersed into the culture of local Rwandans, and learn about the traditions and cultures of Rwandese.

Day 4: Dian Fossey tomb hike and transfer back to Kigali

Enjoy your breakfast at the lodge and later, set off for a trek to Karisoke research station to visit Dian Fossey tomb site. Dian Fossey is still remembered for saving mountain gorillas within Virunga massif and putting up a research center for gorillas in Rwanda.

Later, transfer back to Kigali to catch up with your flight back home and this marks the end of 4 day Rwanda double gorilla trek.
