Detailed 4 Days Nyungwe Chimpanzee Trekking Rwanda Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up from the airport and transfer to Nyungwe national park
You will be welcomed by our company representative at Kigali international airport, who will brief you about a safari to the magical Nyungwe Forest National Park.
Admire the green hills of tea plantations, bustling Butare city and its vibrant dwellers, Nyanza museum and more, that will all usher you into the vast Nyungwe Forest. Upon reaching the lodge, you will check in your rooms for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Canopy walk in the afternoon
Drive to the chimpanzee trekking point after an early morning breakfast. This will commence after a short briefing with head park ranger giving out the dos and don’ts to follow while trekking the magical chimpanzees. While trekking, you will encounter other animals such as red-tailed monkeys, Vervet monkeys, and different bird species among others.
After trekking, the Canopy Walkway follows in the afternoon. This is located 50 meters above the ground level, and 200 meters long. The dropping platform that enables visitors to view different animal species in Nyungwe forest, spreads over hundreds of square meters and will allow visitors to see primates as they swing on tree branches and all beautiful birds. In the evening, return to the lodge for your dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Nature walks and birding in Nyungwe Forest
Nyungwe is Rwanda’s best ornithological site empowered with a variety of birds, and a great spot for committed birders. Therefore, after your breakfast you will head in the forest to search for different bird species such as the acrobatic Rwenzori Turaco, Mangabeys and L’Hoest’s monkeys. In the afternoon, you will head for a short guided nature walk in the forest.
Day 4: Transfer to Kigali and city Tour
After your breakfast, you will transfer to Kigali city and depending on flight schedule you may carry out a brief city tour to explore other sites in Kigali or go for shopping in a craft market or modern shopping malls located in all corners of the city.
Along the way, visit sites like the cultural museum in Butare and appreciate Rwanda’s history, local markets, King’s palace, etc. Transfer to airport which will mark the end of this 4 days tour.
