Detailed Gorilla Trekking & Mount Karisimbi Climbing Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali city and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

You will be picked by the safari driver guide from your hotel after breakfast and transfer to volcanoes national park on day 1 of your 3 Days Rwanda Gorillas & Karisimbi Hiking Safari.

The park is famous for harboring more than ¼ of the remaining mountain gorillas in the world. You will straight away head to the park headquarters for briefing upon arrival and start the hiking activity as early as 8:00am.

Mount Karisimbi is one of the 8 mountains in Virunga conservation region.

The hike to the summit offers spectacular and magnificent views of different volcanoes including Nyiragongo and Nyamuragira volcanoes in D.R. Congo.

The hike is strenuous and challenging especially during wet seasons so you ought to be averagely physically fit to undertake this kind of adventure.  

The hike to the summit takes 6 hours with great views different bird species and primates. On reaching at an altitude of about 3700m, you will stop at the first camping site where you will spend a night.

Day 2: Reach the summit and descend

After early morning cup of coffee, embark on an hour’s hike to the summit. At this level the hike is very steep going through trails of thick jungles surrounded by stunning scenery.

On reaching at the top, enjoy astonishing views of the surrounding areas like Mount Muhabura.

After enjoying your time at the summit descend to the starting point where you will meet your driver readily waiting to receive you and connect to the lodge for lunch and relax in preparation for the next day’s amazing activity.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking and transfer to Kigali city/airport

On this day after breakfast, you will head to Kinigi at the park headquarters to attend your briefing which will take about 30minutes.

The ranger guide will tell you the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking in Rwanda and you should be well dressed in a long sleeved shirt and pair of trouser.

Head to the forest to search for these great apes, and you will be allowed to interact with them for only an hour which will seem to be a minute.

Trekking takes 2-7 hours depending on the location of gorilla family you trek, level of trekking speed and physical fitness of members.

Trek back to lodge for a hot lunch and immediately transfer back to Kigali to catch up your flight back home.
