Detailed Program for this Rwanda Honeymoon Package

Day 1: Transfer to Akagera national park and evening game drive

On this first day of your 12 Days Spice of Rwanda Safari, you will transfer to Akagera national park after your breakfast. While on the way you will be able to spot a number of animals such as buffaloes, elephants, kobs, oribis, warthogs among others.

Upon reaching the park, you will have lunch and prepare for late evening game drive where you will spot more of the animals you missed as you were coming.

Day 2: Morning game drive and afternoon boat ride on Lake Ihema

Head for game drive after your breakfast to meet the early risers like the spotted hyenas, lions, among others. It takes between 2-3 hours and return to the lodge thereafter for lunch and prepare for another amazing boat encounter on Lake Ihema.

After lunch head for a boat cruise where you will spot aquatic animals such as crocodiles, hippos, among others. Other animals such as buffaloes and elephant maybe spotted at the river banks. Return for hot dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Drive to volcanoes national park

Have breakfast and a short community tour, or an optional behind the scenes experience at Akagera national park. The driver guide will then transfer you to Kinigi sector of Volcanoes National Park at the foothills of the Virunga Volcanoes.

This park is home of over ¾ of the remaining endangered mountain gorillas, different bird species, rainforest vegetation as well as primates like golden monkeys, Ruwenzori monkeys, among others. You will check in your accommodation facility in the evening for dinner and night stay.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, you will drive to the Park Headquarters for briefing by the park guides before heading for gorilla tracking in the park. Tracking can be hard and challenging hence requires physical fitness of the participants.

Tracking can take as long as up to 9 hours of a walk in the forest searching for the gorillas. However, an hour of interaction with these closest relatives to human is indeed a rewarding experience.

Day 5: Golden Monkey Trekking Experience

You will track golden monkeys on this day. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight in the evening.

Day 6: Transfer to Lake Kivu in Kibuye

Enjoy a gentle breakfast (tea or coffee), you will transfer to Lake kivu in Kibuye. Drive through beautiful scenery of tea plantations en route. Take a late afternoon rest at the shores of cool water as you arrive in Kibuye at the shores of Lake Kivu.

Day 7: Boat ride and transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Enjoy a relaxed morning at the shores of Lake Kivu with sunrise before heading for a boat ride on the lake. You will later take a gentle drive to Nyungwe forest national park. The park is famous for harboring 13 primates including our cousins – the chimpanzees. The park also is a home of different bird species such as warblers, pittas, turacos among others.

Day 8: Chimpanzee trekking and Nature walk

You will go chimpanzee tracking after a briefing and breakfast, in the forest to search for our cousins, and many other primates. These are beautiful creatures and the trekking is led by the park rangers as they give you the information about chimpanzees.

This activity takes 2-5 hours depending on both the movement of these animals and speed of the trekkers. Continue on a guided nature walk in the forest after lunch, searching for birds which include; the black and white casqued hornbill, turaco and many others, the forest has over 300 species of birds. While on the walk, you will also view Gisakura water falls.

Day 9: Leave Nyungwe to Butare city

You will depart for Butare after your relaxed breakfast which is the second largest city of Rwanda. It hosts the National Museum, Universities and research institutions. On your way to Butare you will Visit the Botanical Gardens and the locally revered hot springs in Rugarama.

Day 10: Cultural excursion and transfer to Kigali city

On this day, you will start with an early breakfast and after visit cultural centers in and around Butare. You will visit the National Museum which is one of the best ethnographic museums of East Africa. It has excellent information about the cultural history of Rwanda and the region.

This ultra-modern building has numerous sections, each displaying a vast collection of monochrome pictures, traditional artifacts and objects, tools and various craft products, traditional ceramics and later depart Butare, driving to Kigali city. On your way to Kigali, you will visit Nyabisindu – the former Mwami’s palace.

Day 11: Kigali city tour

Head for a tour in the city of Kigali which will include a visit to Genocide Memorial site in Gisozi where you will find a museum to remember the genocide of 1994. Another prominent genocide memorial site is at Nyamata where the history of genocide is explained, including Murambi (Gikongoro) and Ntarama. Also visit and explore the handicraft shops, markets, the Moslem quarter in Nyamirambo, and the Franco-Rwanda cultural Centre.

Day 12: Drop off to the airport

After breakfast, the driver guide will transfer you to airport in time for your departure flight, bringing this 12 days Rwanda safari to an end.
