Gorilla Trekking & Wildebeest Migration Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and Hotel transfer
Arriving in Kigali, the driver guide will already be at the airport to pick you up for a transfer to the hotel to spend that night. Depending on the time of arrival, the guide does a simple briefing about the trip movements and show you around Kigali town. At the hotel, just check in, have dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park & visit Gorilla Guardians Village
On having breakfast at the lodge, start the journey to Volcanoes National Park. The two hour drive may turn out to be more because driving will be at your own pace and having different stopovers at places of interest. The comfortable ride gives you amazing sights of the thousand hills of Rwanda.
Arrival will be in the afternoon for lunch and an afternoon visit to the Ibyiwachu cultural village. It’s a one stop center for all the ethnic groups and traditions of Rwanda. Performances of traditional dances and tasting the local cuisines are a sure deal guarantee. Retreat back to your lodge/camp for dinner and night stay.
Day 3: Gorilla trekking in Rwanda
Today it’s a gorilla trekking day. Waking up is very early in the morning for breakfast. Be led by the guide to the park headquarters for a simple briefing from the local park ranger. He takes you through the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking before finally hitting the natural trails to look for the mighty apes. Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park involves hiking to the lower slopes of the volcanoes, searching out the mighty apes.
On meeting the gorillas, spend one magical hour watching them carry on their daily lives. After the one hour elapses, slope back to the headquarters and to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.
Day 4: Fly to Arusha and drive to Ngorongoro crater
Have breakfast at the lodge and drive to Kigali international airport. Here you will have a flight to Arusha in Tanzania. At the airport, be received by an experienced driver guide who transfers you to Ngorongoro crater. Arrival is in the evening for just checking in, dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Full day game drive
Waking up is very early in the morning for breakfast. Then embark on a safari vehicle to have a full day game drive in Ngorongoro crater. Ngorongoro is even referred to as Africa’s Eden, nothing you can fail to spot. From lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, wildebeests, gazelles, giraffes, zebras, waterbucks to bushbucks and many others. This is the largest caldera without water in the world. Enjoy the palatable lunch in the wild among the animals.
Day 6: Travel to Serengeti National Park
It’s a travel day. Just immediately after breakfast, start the journey to Serengeti national park. Driving is at your pace with countless stopovers at any places of interest. At the lodge you will reach in the afternoon for lunch and relaxation.
Day 7: Full day game drive
You will have a full day in Serengeti National park. This is one of the most famous national parks in Africa for its extensive golden grasslands, the big five and the wildebeest migration. The full day drive exposes you to the big five animals; the lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos and buffaloes as well as other animals like gazelles, zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, buffaloes, waterbucks, antelopes and many others.
Day 8: Cross to Kenya – Masai Mara National Reserve
Today is a transition day. You will cross to Kenya and drive straight to Masai Mara national reserve. Masai Mara is popular for the expansive grasslands that extend to the horizon. Have the African cross border experience and drive to the reserve. Arriving is in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Day 9: Game drive and the Masai people
Have a very early morning game drive through Masai Mara national reserve. This drive presents opportunities of watching the early risers as they move out to hunt their prey, the nocturnal animals running back to their hideouts as well as grazers searching and feeding on the fresh grass. Animals like rhinos, elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, gazelles, wildebeests, zebras, waterbucks and many others are to be spotted.
In the afternoon, having had lunch, visit the Maasai community. These are the most kind and hospitable people you will ever meet in Africa. Enjoy the traditional performances and the local cuisines for the evening. Returning to the lodge is in the evening.
Day 10: Departure
Today, just have breakfast and drive to Nairobi at any hotel of your choice or straight to the airport for your departure flight.
