Day 1: Kigali to Virunga National Park
On this first day of your 3 days Kigali to Virunga gorilla trekking safari, you will drive towards Gisenyi and cross over to Goma in DRC Congo. On reaching Goma, you will proceed to your accommodation place and relax as you wait for your Congo gorilla trekking encounter the following day.
Day 2: First gorilla trekking in Virunga & Visit Senkwekwe Gorilla Orphanage
You’ll have your first gorilla trekking experience on this second day of your 3 days Kigali to Virunga gorilla trekking safari. Shortly after breakfast at your lodge/hotel, you will transfer to the park headquarters from where you will be briefed from below entering the jungle for your gorilla trekking encounter.
Trekking gorillas in Virunga may take up to six hours. This time all depends on the mobility of the gorilla group you were allocated to trek. When you locate the gorillas, you will spend 1 hour around them and after return to your starting point.
After trekking gorillas, you will visit the Senkwekwe Gorilla Orphanage, a place where you’ll find gorillas that were rescued from traffickers and snare attacks. Visiting this place is free BUT a donation will help conserve these gorillas and help them multiply in numbers.
Day 3: Second gorilla trekking in Virunga & Departure
This day you go through the exact same gorilla trekking exercise as the previous day except you’ll meet a different gorilla family. After your second gorilla tracking experience in Virunga, you’ll transfer back to Kigali in Rwanda to mark the end of your 3 days Kigali to Virunga gorilla trekking safari.
