Day 1: Transfer to Goma in Congo
After an early morning breakfast meal at your accommodation place or early morning arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by our tour guide and after start driving towards Gisenyi. You will cross over to DRC Congo through the Gisenyi – Goma border and proceed straight to your accommodation place.
Day 2: Ascend Nyiragongo Mountain
This day you’ll gather at the starting point for your trek early in the morning and after begin ascending Nyiragongo Mountain. The hike to the summit takes approximately 6 hours with a few stops. The group moves at the pace of the slowest person hence, irrespective of how slow you are; you can still make it to the summit. You will have picnic lunch along the way in case you get hungry.
When you reach the summit, you will check in to your respective cabins at the Nyiragongo Summit shelters and rest. The views from here are awesome and you’ll be able to see some of the Virunga Mountains. At night, you will get closer to the lava lake and have good views of it. You will spend an overnight at the Nyiragongo Summit Shelters.
Day 3: Descend Nyiragongo Mountain, Transfer to Gisenyi and after to Kigali
This day you’ll descend Nyiragongo Mountain. You should be back at the starting point by mid-day where you’ll find your guide and after cross over to Gisenyi in Rwanda. At Gisenyi, you will have your lunch at the beach and spend your afternoon there. In the evening, you will begin your transfer to Kigali where you will be dropped at your preferred drop off point or the airport for departure.
