Detailed 3-Day Congo Gorilla Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Virunga National Park (Congo)

On this day, you will transfer to Virunga National Park in DRC. You will cross the Gisenyi-Goma border post where you will meet your Congolese guide. From here, you will continue to your hotel in Goma.

You will spend most of the day at your hotel as you prepare for your gorilla trekking experience the next morning.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Virunga National Park

This is the day you trek the mountain gorillas in Virunga National Park. The trek begins with an early morning briefing where you will be guided on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. You will be assigned to a gorilla family before entering the forest to begin the trek.

The trek usually takes between 2 to 6 hours, including one full hour with the gorillas once you find them. The time depends on how far the gorilla family has moved.

After your one-hour gorilla encounter, you will trek back to the starting point, meet your guide, and return to your hotel for rest.

Day 3: Departure

After breakfast, you will cross back into Rwanda and drive to Kigali. You will be dropped at your hotel or at the airport for your departure flight.
